The Binding Project seeks to receive zip tie wristbands representing people from all 50 states. In order to achieve this goal, the Project creators are sending The Binding Project Kit to coalitions against sexual assault and high schools in every state.

Each group will be asked to show the documentary and discuss sexual assault with its respective persons as a means to encourage them to commit to a renewed level of empowerment both on an individual and collective level.

Organizations are encouraged to request more than 60 zip ties in order to reach the level of empowerment sought by the creators of the Project. The goal is to gather 1,000 bracelets and 50 photos of various group art projects by February 2007 in order to display the collective art piece at a Chicago and New York gallery.

Each organization participating is encouraged to have their members wear their Binding Project bracelet for at least 48 hours. They are encouraged to then create a community art piece incorporating the empowerment words in whatever way the collaborators envision and send a photo back to the Project creators. Community art projects will be incorporated into the collective art piece.

Collaborators are encouraged to keep a list of the participants using the Binding Project Connection Form and send it back to the Project creators. If an email is included, updates on the Project will be sent out periodically.

A note about the zip ties: Be sure not to put them on too tight! The clasp locks and cannot be loosened. Cut the excess of the zip tie bracelet as close to the clasp as possible to avoid a potentially sharp edge. Please remember that these are used to keep cords in place, so don’t wear them skin-tight.
